Claret Wine

While ‘Claret’ is not an official wine name, it typically refers to red Bordeaux wine. Claret is usually a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Carmenere.

Piemonte Wine Region, Italy

Piemonte wine is the range of Italian wines made in the region of Piedmont in the northwestern corner of Italy. The best-known wines from the region include Barolo and Barbaresco. They are made from the Nebbiolo grape.

Rioja Blanco

White Rioja, or rather Rioja Blanco, is a style of wine from the Rioja region of Spain made entirely with white grapes, the most important of which is Viura. This white wine ranges from light to full-bodied and is treasured for its ability to age for 10 or more years.

Provence, France

As the oldest wine growing area in France and the world’s largest Rosé specialty region, Provence is the gold standard in Rosé. There are 8 different appellations in Provence but only 3 that you need to know: Cotes de Provence, Aix-en-Provence, and Bandol.

Did you know that Sauvignon Blanc from France is named Pouilly Fumé, Sancerre, and Sauvignon de Touraine. Just like in California it might be called Fumé Blanc thanks to our own Minnesota native Robert Mondovi.

Bordeaux wine

All Bordeaux wines are almost invariably blended. The permissible grape varieties in red Bordeaux are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. While wine making styles vary, a rule of thumb is that the Left Bank is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon based with the Right Bank being more Merlot based.
